MoSAR (Systemic modeling applied to ruminants)
The objective of the Mosar unit is to understand, characterize and predict the relationship between the farm animal and its food environment in order to develop tools to increase the efficiency of the use of food resources by optimizing performance, coping skills and animal welfare. The unit carries out research in animal nutrition, animal behavior, rumen physiology, energy metabolism and modeling around a common research theme: description and quantification of the processes by which ruminants obtain, ingest, digest, and then Metabolize and allocate their food resources to production and vital functions.
Over the period 2009-2013, the Mosar UMR was structured into three themes:
Digestion and food quality
Study digestion in vivo and in vitro , mainly in the rumen.
Link feeding behavior, ruminal digestion and acidosis.
Model the functioning of rumen and acidosis on different time scales.
Partition of energy nutrients
Study the flow of nutrients, fatty acids in particular.
Phenotyping the individual variability of production performance over the course of the quarry.
Modeling the dynamics of nutrient partitioning over different time scales.
Animal welfare and behavior
Understand the factors influencing eating behavior and the consequences on well-being.
Model the feeding behavior of ruminants.
Conduct a behavioral phenotyping.
Beginning in 2014, research was reorganized into two themes: Acquisition and Allocation of nutritional resources.
